Jim, i agree with that. the opening up of world trade has brought about numerous benefits and has hastened the drive towards greater efficiency.
we can only hope that this trend towards free trade doesn't get reversed at some point. it certainly doesn't look that way right NOW, but history shows that it is not a linear development. there have been frequent setbacks and there probably will be again.
inflation in the sense of price increases of goods and services certainly is being held in check by free trade to some extent. note however that inflation in terms of money supply growth is not influenced by this. it is entirely in the hands of the central banks.
