Good to see ADI is not slowing down their development:

Analog Devices Introduces State-of-the-Art Solution to the Lower Cost of DSL Modem Design

-- New AD8018 achieves superior line drive capability on a single +5V power supply.

May 1, 2000 07:57 AM Eastern Time
NORWOOD, Mass., May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Analog Devices, Inc. ADI today announced the introduction of the AD8018, the industry's first +5V line driver with the output drive capability to deliver full rate upstream ADSL. The AD8018's low cost, single +5V operation and small package make it ideal for USB and PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) ADSL modems by reducing the part count for power management components such as DC/DC converters.

The AD8018 line driver consists of dual, high-output current amplifiers, each capable of driving rail-to-rail output voltage, and 350ma minimum output current from a single +5V power supply. Despite using only +5V, the AD8018 delivers superior distortion performance that does not compromise 'reach,' providing more than enough output power for the upstream requirements of G.dmt as well as G.lite modems. The efficiency of the AD8018 design is maximized by using Analog Devices' state-of-the-art 8V eXtra Fast Complementary Bipolar (XFCB) process, enabling the AD8018 to dissipate minimum power.

"Enabling ADSL for the consumer markets requires reduced-cost modems that don't sacrifice performance," said Ed Spence, product manager, DSL linear products, Analog Devices. "High output current drive with low distortion, low cost and a small package make the AD8018 ADSL line driver the best solution available for +5V-only modem designs. The high performance of the AD8018 line driver enables trend-setting modem designs -- another example of how ADI leads the market by providing the most advanced communications products available."

Pricing and Availability

The AD8018 line driver is available now in an 8L SOIC, and an 14L TSSOP, which provides a flexible power down functionality. The AD8018 costs $2.78 in quantities of 1,000 units.
