Well, you haven't used JBuilder 2.0 which even a diehard Borland enthusiast called "alpha" on this thread. As for 1.0, it wasn't even an engineering test. As for having a lot of third party material, the shelves are empty versus Microsoft material. As for not needing collateral material if you know what you're doing: that's true with language issues, not with large interacting APIs. Nobody sat down with Windows and created an application using the API and no other documentation. Try creating a DirectX application with nothing more than a function call listing. Let's see how far you get creating a JSP application based on a set of backend business components in Java, without a wizard or plenty of external documentation.

I'm not talking about a simple set of system calls but a framework, and there are many sub-frameworks to both Java and Windows. I'm not talking about voluminous material but a CD containing small, quality examples under the API doc for a particular class. You cannot memorize these and the list of APIs continues to grow. Sorry, but unless you like wasting your time, this is a necessary component of a good development tool. I wouldn't want anybody on my team who claims you don't need that because you can just wade through API lists and experiment with the order and number of calls that have to be met to fulfill a particular services contract. I'm guessing I could do that better than most, it's not a question of know-how.
