Admittedly, my exposure to JBuilder has been minimal -- limited only to tinkering and I must say it was not a gratifying experience. But the Delphi & BCB products are strong by anyone's measure (now we can argue about the validity of PASCAL as the basis for a language in the first place).

I find that I never (well, 99% of the time) need reference material beyond the online docs supplied when dealing with the VCL. In fact, the only time I need other docs at all is when I'm dealing with WINAPI issues, which I try to avoid at all costs. In those few circumstances where API is essential, well, so are the docs.

As a testament to the validity of VCL, I will state further that I seldom need docs when using VCL components from 3rd parties. I'm currently working with DBISAM and use IP2000 quite heavily, and find the use of these VCL components to seldom require any reference materials at all.

Had the entire WINAPI been wrapped in a VCL-like library, Windows development would have been moved forward by years. As it is, corporate nitwits who continue to demand that their developers use only MSFT tools and WinAPI calls are wasting tons of money.
