Anyone been playing with the dynamic quote chains? (Gainers, losers, etc.)
There are a couple of interesting ones there - I had to call Townsend to find out exactly what they are, and even then then didn't give me a complete answer.
$HOTVOL-Q (for Nasdaq, or -N for NYXE or -A for Amex) gives a list of stocks with "hot volume". I presume, from observation, that "hot" means a large volume increase over some relatively small intraday time period. (Unfortunately, I don't know what that time period is.)
$HOTNTR-Q gives a list of stocks with "hot # trades". Similar to above, but it seems to be stocks that have had a surge in the number of trades.
$HOTNTR-Q is looking like it might be quite useful. I thought at first that it might be good for short-term daytrading, but by the time a stock shows-up on there, it's typically already had quite a run-up, and so it might actually be a good way of picking short-term shorts. On the other hand, the stocks tend to pop later in the day. So, it could be used to pick stocks to a) short immediately and/or b) buy on a pullback and hold till close or overnight. Some of these turn out to be real "stealth" plays, in spite of the surge. It's like they surge, but nobody really notices until later in the day.
Or so that's my theory - can't tell much after just a day of use. But I picked GZMO off of that list today, and so far I'm pretty darn happy with the results. :)
It's such a luxury to finally have some dynamic symbol lists in RT3, without having to resort to external programs like SortWizard, or my own (very old, very much not up-to-date...) Scammer. |
