You can't have it all. A complete free market, no subsidies and a decent food production in every part of Europe.

I think European's are paying dearly for for lofty concept as "decent food production in every part of Europe", which just translates to a money grab by the politically connected farmers at expense of everyone else.

Who suffers most at expense of the European farmers are the farmers in the poorest countries of the world. Food is just about the only thing they can offer as trade to the rich countries. So these poor countries remain poor. The Europeans send them some pocket change as foreign aid, to make Europeans feel good about themselves, rather than open their markets.

The United States are not perfect by any means, but to me, the policies of Japan and Europe are obsene in the area of farm trade.
