MSFT OS and the Apps would be two new monopolies in their own right

I worked several years as a contractor (now I'm an employee) in the software business. Several startup ideas which I thought were quite good were ultimately abandoned because the windows interfaces could not be worked out adequetely. (one was a graphics design program for textiles, another a scheduling application for parts delivery). The concepts were good. The interface information was nearly nonexistant. It's not just Office or similar programs that are sandbagged by Microsofts hidden API. If consumers don't think they have been hurt it is only because they don't know what they weren't offered.
Another word processor? BAH! There are a hundred other programs that people don't have that they didn't even know they wanted. If a breakup exposes the API it will be the greatest productivity gain in a decade.
