After suffering through 5 years of poor and very poor customer service from E*Trade, I finally severed my ties with them and closed my account today. I've chosen to pay the higher commissions with Schwab in exchange for competent, reliable customer service.

I've made a lot of money with E*Trade these past 5 years, and that fact prompted me to remain patient with them during their growing pains. In addition, I simply didn't feel like making the effort to switch brokers and pay higher commissions.

I have witnessed E*Trade's customer service actually declining further during the past year or so. Plus, many of their policies are absurd and their representatives are simply incompetent.

In the end it all came down to one simple question: "Can I continue to trust E*Trade with my money?" The answer I gave myself is, "no, I cannot."

I will pay the higher commissions, and I will rest easier with Schwab tonight.

Best Regards,
John
