Have you ever feared once CD-ROMs are made 'writeable'
what would happen to Iomega?

Yeah, Iomega would continue to rise! Have you ever used a writable CD-Rom unit? Their access time is incredibly slow! Highest available for home use really is a 4x drive and it still takes about 30 mins for a 650 cd. Not to mention, CD costs are about $10. True they're cheap, but they are NOT re-writeable! The re-write BS they claim means yes, if you don't write all 650 megs, you can later write the remaining space, but if you do so, all records of stuff on the first write is wiped. So basically, it's a slow, write once medium that costs about $800-1000 for an internal 2x. Not a very optimistic picture. At this price and performance, I would take a trusty Ditto 3200 backup unit and still out-perform your cd-recorder.

Just my 2 cents
