What a cool article, thanks. I especially liked this:

<Few studies have examined diet as it relates to mortality. Although many studies have examined the role of single nutrients, foods, or food groups in the etiology of disease, relatively little research has addressed the health effects of dietary patterns comprising multiple interdependent factors. >

Although I've never seen this in print, I've suspected little research was being done on diet. In the quest for the hold grail [mechanism] there is little work being done in this field using true common sense. Why? Because in todays paradigm [1. profits, 2. mechanism] it appears one must get down to a single 'cause and effect' scheme to be cost effective and come up with claims that can be quickly/easily 'proven'to FDA's satisfaction.

Meanwhile food companies turn out crap for consumption [with little or no mechanistic information] that OTHERS would have to show damaging to get pulled from shelves... does this make ANY sense??
