uniView Technologies Receives Initial Contract for $20 Million for Linux-Based Uniview Set Top Boxes
============================================================
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 2, 2000--

uniView enters into agreement with Zoned In
for long-term set top box deployment and support

uniView Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:UVEW), through its Products
Group, announced an initial contract of $20 million for a new set top
box (Z Box) based on the Linux uniView model.
This unit will become the basis for Zoned In's www.zonedin.com
business model of secure transactions and community-centered
applications, which is planned for deployment by the end of this year.
"The agreement with Zoned In demonstrates the significance of the
new uniView Linux model in the overall product line up for uniView's
set top box solutions," said Tom O'Mara, president of the uniView
Products Group. "The positioning of this unit into Zoned In's business
strategy is an example of our unique business solutions to specific
customer channels. Combining the Linux operating system open
architecture with smart card technologies will allow a broad and
aggressive deployment of this product."
uniView introduced the Linux-based platform last month as an entry
level set top box. The new unit created an opportunity for uniView's
Products Group to offer a more economical set top box solution to
customers.
"Our company performed extensive research on available STB
technologies as well as the support functions required for our
strategy, said Mark Cano, Zoned In senior vice president of sales and
marketing. "uniView offered the best solution in which we felt
confident to position the future of Zoned In's model. Our business
strategy not only requires a superior performing STB platform, but a
very complex combination of software, hardware and deployment
capability. No other company could demonstrate the total solution
talent of uniView."
