Tom did not say anything to that effect. What he said was that of all of the competition, Clarify was the most likely to show any chance of making an impact on the market again. He then mentioned that he had heard about an imminent SAP/Clarify partnership.

I'll make this assertion (easy to make since it's unprovable):

It will make no difference to Siebel's revenue or earnings growth if:

1) SAP partnered with Siebel (about as likely as an Oracle/Siebel partnership),

2) SAP partnered with Clarify

3) SAP waited and tried to build their own product

The monsterous Siebel pipeline of 7, 8 and 9 figure deals has NOTHING to do with SAP's disappearing presence in the enterprise space and nothing to do with SAP's frustrated installed base of ERP customers.
