once I close the position I have no way to calculate my P&L for that trade or for the day

You can track your open and closed profits/losses in the position minder. Here's how I do it:

right click on the position minder and select Column Layout. Make sure Scalped Profit is checked, and then highlight it. Click the Compute Total check box (also the Color Code checkbox to make the profits green and losses red). That will compute your total for open positions. For closed positions, do the same with the P&L Total item. To find these, if they are not in your list, click the more More button and search through the list.
