Hi Pat,..Re:.Who's most threatened by their entry into the optical chip market?

I was thinking possibly PMCS. BWTHDIK! <g>

pmc-sierra.com
All four devices in the chip set are now sampling to a limited set of customers in 3.3 volt, low power 0.25 micron CMOS technology.

The TT1 switching fabric supports line cards with both circuit-switched and packet-switched data traffic such as Internet Protocol (IP), Packet-Over-SONET, ATM and Frame Relay in any mix at rates up to OC-192 (10 Gbit/s) (See Figure 1).

broadcom.com
It is the industry's first programmable quad CMOS (Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) transceiver that can support data rates up to 10 Gbps.

Would take some serious research (for me anyway, <g>) to see if we're talking about the same signal level and applications. BRCM talks about 802.3ae Ethernet protocol and PMCS talks IP but doesn't specifically call out an IEEE designation??? (getting way out of my depth on this one)!!

Will try to dig up more info later or maybe some good soul in the field will save us the trouble.<g>

Cheers,

Lee
