SLSUSMA, your short-sighted analysis leaves MUCH to be desired. If you did ANY KIND of historical research, you would known E*Trade WAS profitable a year or two ago, but they decided to invest to customer acquisition and marketing, which was by far the best decision.

If they didn't do that then, they would be just another broker like DLJ Direct, Waterhouse, and the like. Now E*Trade is on track to become a financial services powerhouse with $1 billion of annual revenue soon.

E*trade can be profitable ANYTIME it wants to be, but the last year wasn't the time.
