OK-- Here is my partial answer (after you read my preceeding post on 10GE and IEEE 802.3ae and HSSG) The development of 10GE and the standards that enable it will foster the growth of fiber optical data communications. Mostly, 10GE is fiber optic based and solutions over copper are difficult. Over fiber, the developments include a 4 channel WDM solution and it is this that I think BRCM has developed a prototypical device. Note, the standard is NOT complete, there are difficult issues to solve and the IEEE isures a level playing field and encourages working prototypes. This does not give BRCM any advantage. So, 10GE will indeed foster the growth of fiber optical based data communications. Does that address your query ?
