Your question about "octets" escapes me completely. Don't remember ever expressing such an interest, does that mean that senility is catching up with me ?? The only group of 8 that I recall mentioning is my Grandchildren, and the eigth one isn't due til July.

I had forgotten your earlier mention of the Sahara. Funny place to spend several years, but then no travel is wasted or without interest,( any more than any knowledge is completely useless) and I have been luckier than most. Thank goodness it seems to have been passed on the the next generations already

I was in Pakistan in 1956 just after partition, and have seen the Regimental emblems painted on the rocky walls of the Khyber Pass, so feel confident that the kilts and bagpipes have been seen and heard throughout the area we were discussing
