The problem with LE isn't his inflammatory statements (which he makes as inflammatory as possible and then pretends to be surprised when people get upset), but just whether or not he's involved in his company. Historically, when he is, things go well, and when he's not, they don't.

If you actually read his statements carefully, they fall into two categories. The first, is where he's daring ORCL to come through on something (we'll pass SEBL in CRM is one of these), and the second are actually thoughtful remarks about the state and future of the business (but stated in a way to get people as worked up as possible -- the network PC stuff is an example of this). I generally ignore the first kind of statements, since I don't understand what they mean, but the second kind are worth listening to. Even when he's wrong about the details, the general ideas underlying these statements are consistently good and frequently well ahead of the herd.

But maybe these aren't the management qualities that you are talking about...
