Cirrus, <Do you think Hotrail just completely ditched the project and threw in the dumpster? I wonder if AMD could pick up where they left off...>

I'm not sure if AMD would want to. Although HotRail's 8-way chipset design is a very good one, I doubt it's worth AMD's time and effort to pick it up when they're already working on an 8-way chipset of their own. Plus, the HotRail Channel technology (HRC) looks almost like a carbon-copy of AMD's LDT. So it's not like there's anything particularly new about HotRail's design that AMD would want to pick up.

<Did you catch the article the other day which said Sledgehammer will have an integrated north bridge? What's interesting is AMD has spoken of having two processors on a single die, and the slides of LDT show two processors connected to a north bridge.>

Oh, I'm pretty sure that integrating the north bridge on a dual-core Sledgehammer makes a lot of sense. This will create a very nice scalable building block for 2-way SMP and above, with LDT functioning as the glue. This is one reason why I think AMD's LDT is going to be a hit, if AMD can execute on this strategy.

I just don't believe for a moment that Sledgehammer will come right out of the chute as a dual-core processor. AMD needs to get the single-core version working first, then work on the dual-core version. Same thing with the integrated north bridge, it's just too soon to feature on the first generation of Sledgehammer.
