I can assure you that "they" were watching Juan almost from day one.
Doris Meissner had no call telling Juan Miguel that Elian would be back with him by 1/14, unless she is incredibly naive, and had no idea that there would be any legal challenges, which I find very hard to believe.
How about "lack of love" as grounds for losing parental rights? Any father who truly loved his son, there would just be no way come heaven or hell that he would wait that long to see him, just no way period. If I were a judge involved in this case, I would ask him, "Juan-Miguel, do you love your son?" (of course, true or not, the answer would be yes) Then I would ask: "Then why did you wait four long months to see him?" (well you see your honor, I would rather have the American government remove him at gunpoint and bring him to me rather than me making the effort to see him sooner) I rest my case. Judge Yogi
