RESTON, Va., May 3, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Technology companies demonstrated several shifts in rank but continued to dominate this week's Powerize 50. The weekly list of companies being watched by individual investors and business researchers at www.powerize.com is derived by tracking the search requests of more than 500,000 Powerize.com members.

Pharmaceutical companies lost ground, as Pfizer (37) and Merck (46) sank down the chart. Wireless companies and telecommunications providers maintained their strength: Nokia surged into second, MCI WorldCom rose to ninth, and AT&T (21) jumped into the Top 25. Palm (20) and Handspring (28) continued to climb the chart. Cisco Systems maintained the top spot for the third consecutive week while Ariba dropped to fifth, falling several notches for the first time in over a month.

The rest of this week's top ten most searched-for companies at Powerize.com: Microsoft (3), JDS Uniphase (4), America Online (6), Lucent Technologies (7), Pacific Century Cyberworks (8), and Cheap Tickets (10).
