PR Newswire - May 03, 2000 08:17

TULSA, Okla., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Williams Communications (NYSE: WCG), a leading international provider of telecommunications services and products for the carrier marketplace, has signed a five-year agreement with a value of up to $40 million to provide network capacity and services to Time Warner Telecom Inc. (Nasdaq: TWTC), a provider of data, Internet and voice services to businesses.

Under the agreement, Time Warner Telecom intends to purchase optical network transport services from Williams for its national Internet Protocol (IP) network. These optical network services, ranging in capacity from DS-3 to OC-48, will connect Time Warner Telecom to key cities throughout the country including Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, San Jose, Tampa and Washington, D.C. The agreement is structured to enable Time Warner Telecom to increase capacity over the term of the contract.

"Williams Multi-Service Broadband Network(TM) is ideally suited to provide the backbone and support growing integrated service companies like Time Warner Telecom require," said Gordon Martin, president of carrier services for the Williams Network. "In an increasingly competitive telecommunications industry, Williams' flexible network architecture, broad geographic reach and innovative services enable these companies to rapidly achieve a nationwide presence, penetrate new markets and increase their customer base."

"We deliver highly reliable, integrated telecommunications services to businesses over our own local and regional optical networks." said Michael Rouleau, senior vice president of marketing and technologies for Time Warner Telecom. "This agreement will enhance our ability to offer data and Internet access to customers over our IP network."

Williams Communications has the largest next-generation fiber-optic network in the United States with more than 24,000 miles in operation and 33,000 planned route miles connecting 125 cities by the end of this year. The fully integrated architecture of the Williams Multi-Service Broadband Network(TM) couples ATM core switching with advanced optical networking technologies to provide carriers with data, voice, video and Internet services over any platform.
