rudedog - perhaps you are correct - it may not have begun on a conscious level to perpetuate the exploitation of accounting loopholes but somewhere along the path there was great discussion and possibly debate on the topic and the decision was made to continue down that path.

My evidence of this was the whistleblowing done by CPAs at MSFT (who won a lawsuit for his dismissal). Somewhere it crossed an ethical line and not to the advantage of stockholders. With this in mind, the FED will not hestitate to one day "lasso in" these companies. We need to keep our eyes and ears open and not invest with emotion but with clear heads.
