Armed and wireless. Networking Pioneer First to Market With Second Generation 802.11b Wireless LAN; Delivers High Performance, Advanced AirLock(TM) Security Software, Revolutionary Design
NoWires Needed, a leading innovator of wireless LANs, today announced the May, 2000 availability of its new 11 Mbps wireless LAN product lines. The second generation IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN Access Point and PC Card are targeted to enterprise users, and combine the advantages of increased performance and security in an astonishingly sleek package suitable for any office environment.
Technological Innovation
The new product suite is based on a powerful ARM-based medium access control (MAC) integrated circuit, the fruit of a strategic development announced earlier this year with ARM Holdings PLC (Nasdaq:ARMHY - news). ``The MAC is the operating system of a wireless LAN, enabling product functionality and features,'' said Hans van der Hoek, President and CEO of NoWires Needed. ``Our custom-designed MAC enables superior performance, reliability and scalability. NoWires Needed's new products deliver industry leading performance in terms of throughput, security, and upgrade path.'' The products' high performance radio is based on Intersil's advanced PRISM© chip set.
AirLock(TM) is Easy
Security is a critical aspect of wireless LAN management and NoWires Needed has engineered an embedded software solution that eliminates the time and nuisance of encryption key management that typically plagues network administrators. Airlock(TM) Security Software provides a standards-based, trouble-free setup combining secure key agreement with a 128-bit encryption key. Thanks to this unique public/private key management, AirLock(TM) Security Software is easier to use and more secure than both the 802.11 standard Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) 40-bit encryption and the competitive 128-bit encryption, and represents the industry's best security solution.
Revolutionary Design
NoWires Needed's Access Point sets a new standard in wireless LAN design. Sleek and stylish, the Access Point carries a footprint less than 20% of the size of its next largest competitor. Users, as well as network managers, will appreciate the benefits of products designed to look good in a business setting.
NoWires Needed Targets Multiple Markets
In addition to the 11 Mbps wireless LAN for the enterprise market announced today, this Summer, NoWires Needed will also release a low-cost Access Point targeted to small businesses as well as a USB adapter card and a wireless Ethernet adapter. ``The wireless LAN market is maturing, and customers are looking for products that address their specific requirements,'' said Jeff Abramowitz, VP of Marketing for NoWires Needed. ``Our Small Business Access Point has functionality aimed squarely at small business customers. All of our products include innovative features like AirLock(TM) Security Software that solve real customer problems and will therefore help to catalyze the wireless LAN market.''
Availability and Pricing
The new NoWires Needed family of 11 Mbps wireless LAN products will be available in Europe beginning May 20, 2000 and in the United States shortly thereafter. The new NoWires Needed solutions are competitively priced at US$219 for the PC Card, US$999 for the Enterprise Access Point and US$499 for the Small Business Access Point.
