Right - they want volume, but no one could have foreseen the kind of mania we saw recently. EVERYONE was unprepared, to some extent. I have a collection of charts and other information on many of the unusual OTC-BB market periods of the last 5-6 years, and a few weeks ago I looked through files from 1996-1998. In those years, volumes were high and pigs flew, but generally the craziest moves were bankrupt companies going from pennies to maybe .30-.50 over 1-3 days, not anywhere near the bizarre stuff this year. The business has gotten tougher and a dumb or inefficient MM can definitely get hurt, but they should all be in decent shape now that volumes dried up and they've had a chance to balance out their positions.
