(Nasdaq: BEAS), The E-Commerce Transactions Company(TM), announced today that China Post, the postal regulatory authority established under the Ministry of Information Industry of the People's Republic of China, has selected BEA Tuxedo(TM), BEA WebLogic Server(TM), and a wide range of education, customer support, and professional services from BEA as the foundation for its new project, China Integrated Postal Service Network. This new project is being developed to automate postal delivery throughout China to improve management, customer service, and productivity of the Chinese postal service.
With the help of The BEA E-Commerce Transaction Platform(TM), China Post will transform China's country-wide postal services from a labor-intensive industry to a technology-efficient one characterized by many and varied large-scale applications, multi-vendor hardware, and operating systems, databases, and development tools. With the integration of China Post's 82,000 postal outlets, China Post will be able to service the 1.2 billion residents of China, spanning nearly 4 million square miles.
When the project is completed, China Post will be able to provide, through a single information system, traditional postal services, such as letter, parcel, and newspaper distribution, as well as innovative services like direct mail advertising and catalog mail order.
