[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\SysTray]
"Services"=dword:00000006

"Services"=6 on my system shows the icon
"Services"=2 on my system omits the icon

on restart today, the icon was not there. i checked the registry key you noted above. here are the two names and data appearing under 'systray':

Name ..................... Data

(Default) .................. (Value not set)
Services ................... 0x0000000e(14)

after recording this data, i restarted once again. this time the speaker icon appeared. the above values do not change in either condition (icon present or absent). the above items are the only entries in the systray folder.

thoughts?

:)
