Savant-It does seem like a strange time to get a grip on true valuations and that article is probably right about the disconnect between computational methods of valuation vis a vis it's IP and what the company actually will do in the future.

The future for industries may have been subject to reasonable approximations at one time but in today's Internet climate I don't think any computational method will lead to even a reasonable approximation.

Perhaps I am naive and have bought into the whole new paradigm thing too much, but the parallels between Guttenberg's press and the Internet stick in my gut. But, I get cold feet when I read comments like this from Phillip Fisher, a titan in the world of investing,

" I'm no expert, but I think the Internet is going to be a considerable disappointment to those who are looking for a market among consumers, but it will be highly successful for businesses to deal with each other. In these things sometimes the opportunity may be in keeping out where others are jumping in. Change creates opportunities to grow, but it also creates opportunities to slip."

However, he made this comment in 1996 in a Forbes interview. Hasn't the world noticeably changed in 4 years?
