This thread has intelligent posters, so I am posing my question here. Here are five-year charts for the Dow and the Nasdaq. The Dow seems to have flattened out over the past three months, while the Nasdaq has taken a plunge (partly due to Internet stocks washing out.)

finance.yahoo.com^DJI&d=5ym

finance.yahoo.com^IXIC&d=5ym

Both Mattson and Applied Materials are doing well, but they and others are fighting the trend toward higher interest rates. These rate hikes keep roiling the markets and don't give them a chance to settle down.

The two-year S&P chart is a little easier to read than the 5 year:

finance.yahoo.com^SPC&d=2ym

Finally here's the 5-year SOXX:

finance.yahoo.com^SOXX&d=5ym

At least it's not below its 200 day moving average.

I know no one is omniscient, but does anyone have an idea or comment about whether the semis will be able to break through this stone wall that the Fed it building? Investors are so nervous these days.

Regards,
pjm
