Lone, The Volumetrics concept is based upon the research that shows that people who lose a lot of weight eventually revert to eating the same amount, in weight, as they were eating when they were heavier. So, the concept is to subsitute high volume food for higher density food. Some is obvious, such as substituting a pound of catfish for a pound of porterhouse steak. But the killers are ones like substituting sugar free jello pudding for the same weight amount of cake or candy. That is what attracted me to the concept, and, in truth, I was using Volumetrics before I ever heard of it. I prefer natural and whole foods on a taste basis. Some would hate this type of diet, but it works for me because I'm never hungry.
I don't follow the book's allocation of fat/carbs/protein. I need more protein due to my heavy lifting. But I do substitute things like oatmeal for dry cereal, which is a layup. And I eat a ton of food while losing fat.
True, this is a slow losing diet and some couldn't hack that. But I am able to lose about 2 pounds a week and it is all fat, which is also key for me.
I read the most recent "Reacher" book by Lee Child and the hero states, "Drink a gallon of spring water a day and do anything else you want and you will be very fit." I don't know if I buy that premise, but there is no doubt that I am keeping the spring water people in business. <g> |
