Dortmunder, who generally ignores me when I stumble into the big kitchen as he's drinking his tea, eating his scones (what the heck IS a scone?) and poring over his charts surprised me this morning. "Sit" he said in his clipped British accent. "We shall discuss the market." I sat.
"Are we in a bear market?" he asked.
"Yes Dortumder, we are in a bear market." I answered.
"Are there strong sectors and strong stocks despite this bear market?"
"Yes, Dotmunder, there are." I said.
"Will we experience occasional sharp rallies?" he asked.
"Yes, we shall." I responded.
"Good" he said, "have a scone."
"Mmmm. I don't like scones." I said.
"Ever try one? Of course you haven't. Here, (he handed me one) eat, now." I ate. It was rather good.
"Did we profit from yesterday's late rally?" he asked.
"Indeed we did. Can I have another scone?"
"Did we buy those two stocks at or near the lows?"
"Quite." I said. Was I beginning to talk like the little guy from across the pond?"
"And what shall we do with those two stocks today?"
"We shall sell them into strength, if it occurs." I said.
"And why shall we do that?" he demanded.
"Becasuse we are Traders?"
"Precisely." Have another scone. I took another scone.
"But Dortmnder, what if we sell those two stocks and they go up even higher?"
"We shall wail and gnash our teeth all day and stop trading because we sold too soon" he said, grabbing the scone he'd given me. "We shall almost always buy too soon and sell too soon.Get used to it if you want to call yourself a trader."
"Alright" I sighed. "I'll try. Can I have my scone back?"
He gave me the scone. (Lee)
