Louisiana is facing a big budget shortfall this year. I read in the newspaper this morning of two proposal to help close the shortfall. One is raising the LA. lottery ticket price to $1.25 from $1.00. This has to be the dumbest idea I've ever heard. The other is allowing the riverboat casinos to remain dockside in exchange for higher taxes.

Politicians know that gambling is a relatively painless way to raise much need revenues.
