JAWS Technologies and Marsh working together to insure the risks of e-commercestrategies JAWS to provide full-service security assessments in conjunction withMarsh's Net Secure(TM) insurance program
Thu May 04 06:00:00 EDT 2000

TORONTO, ON, NEW YORK, NY, May 4, 2000 /CNW-PRN via COMTEX/ -- JAWS
Technologies Inc. (JAWZ:NASDAQ) a leading information security solutions
company, and Marsh, the world's leading risk advisor and insurance broker,
announced they are working together to help clients address the risks associated
with e-business activities.

JAWS Technologies Inc. will provide security consulting services for Marsh's Net
Secure(TM), an insurance program that provides up to US$200 million in coverage
for risks associated with e-business.

JAWS Technologies Inc. will evaluate the e-business security risks of clients
enrolling in Net Secure(TM) according to established industry standards. Through
comprehensive security risk assessments performed by JAWS, risks such as data
security, information theft, denial of service and fraud will be identified,
enabling clients to understand their potential exposures.

``Recent reports in the media demonstrate the potential liabilities and
consequences that security breaches and hacks can have on business,'' said
Robert Kubbernus, Chairman and CEO at JAWS Technologies Inc. ``We are committed
to working with Marsh to provide customers with end-to-end security services and
to partner with businesses in taking a proactive approach in managing their
potential security risks. In fact, we have already initiated the program and in
several cases have begun the security assessment phase for Marsh clients.''

``The Internet has created extensive opportunities for businesses to provide
borderless service to their customers and to connect critical business systems
worldwide,'' said Jan Wleugel , Senior Vice President at Marsh Canada Limited.
``However, with the evolution of these new opportunities comes increased risk
and companies must assure customers, partners and stakeholders that their online
businesses are secure.

``The first step in addressing the risk is to evaluate the security measures
protecting the new technology,'' he added. ``JAWS is a leader in this area in
Canada.''

Net Secure(TM), a comprehensive insurance program developed by Marsh, can cover
a wide array of potential liabilities related to electronic business, including
invasion of privacy, copyright and trademark infringement, hack attacks,
implantation or spread of a computer virus, information theft, fraud, security
breaches, as well as programming errors and other perils associated with
electronic data.

Kubbernus added, ``The threat of being taken off-line for an
e-business/e-commerce company is the same as a bricks-and-mortar shop closing
its doors. Inability to do business online and breaches in security have a very
real dollar amount attached to them. Working in partnership with Marsh will
allow us to not only reduce liability, but accelerate the overall risk
management process for maximum protection.''

While JAWS first focus will be to provide a security assessment, a complete
range of security services from secure messaging products to secure data vaults
and storage and computer forensics will be available to customers.
