raging.com

I have given this a quick look. It appears to be the basic "search engine" of AltaVista without all the bells and whistles. In other words, it seems to be the AltaVista search engine as it was about 4 years ago before they add news, finance, direct, products, etc. links.

IMO, the name AltaVista is meant to refer to the collection of web sites as a whole and "raging" refers specifically to the web search engine.

I really only spent a few minutes checking this out, but that's my first impression. I don't see anything new here, unless they plan to use this as a new marketing tool to sell advertising space, e.g., Yahoo!'s main function.

I suppose one should check out google.com to see where this concept could be heading. It seems the web advertising model is under heavy pressure, and the web sites are trying to dream up news ways to bring in revenues. IMO profitability isn't seen in the foreseeable future.
