I expect statisticians to keep moving the goalposts as suits their preference. Because statistics are sometimes misleading, I always found it helpful to just notice the trend in productivity growth and compensation over time.<g> These graphs are current as of May 3, 2000 according to the Fed site. Productivity and Compensation stls.frb.org Also interesting to note on charts is where or from what base Unit Labor Costs is rising. ECI, Compensation Per Hour and Unit Labor costs stls.frb.org The productivity debate has been going on awhile - some history FWIW. <g> equity.stern.nyu.edu So you're right, it's difficult to make a sound argument or judgement from a single month's data point.
