Minutes used is the key to everything. That's why the cited 140 minutes per month is interesting - what is the real number hidden beneath the figure? If you clean out those subs that are making free or deeply discounted calls; what is the number of minutes that actual, real-world users are generating? We have no idea - you can't extrapolate anything if you don't know how many users are making free calls.

Masking real demand under generously allocated free minutes is a pretty shrewd move. But the genuine strike of genius is releasing results from "selected countries". What was the selection criteria? Do the numbers to favor the CDMA markets rather than GSM markets... or developed countries rather than developing countries? Basically - if you pick ten countries you can use the selection to argue pretty much anything you want, depending on what you want.

It has to be noted that it's possible that the selection of countries is completely fair and is not intended to cook up numbers by distorting the statistics. This is entirely possible and it would be wrong to assume that the selection of markets is biased. It would be cynical, hostile and unfair.
