SI Diamond Announces Carbon Film Emission Breakthrough
AUSTIN, Texas, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- SI Diamond Technology, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SIDT - news) through its subsidiary, Field Emission Picture Element Technology, Inc. (FEPET), announced today that researchers succeeded in developing a consistent, repeatable process to deposit high quality electron emission carbon films on inexpensive and easily available stainless steel substrates. The carbon films deposited on this metallic substrate have emission site densities similar to previous samples (one million sites/cm2, see Press Release Nov. 30, 1999) and show consistent low threshold fields of less than 3 V/micrometer (consistent with lower than 50V operating voltage).
The significance of this result is that for the first time a repeatable and fully controlled process of depositing high quality electron emissive films was demonstrated on an inexpensive substrate (for more information visit our web site at www.carbontech.net). FEPET conceived and demonstrated the utilization of a metallic substrate for the cathode integrated with a transparent substrate for the anode. This breakthrough will accelerate the introduction and increase the utilization of carbon films for various FED applications.
