The analogy with Prohibition is faulty. Beer, wine, and liquor had general cultural acceptance, and were woven into the culture of many lands. They are also comparatively easy to make at home, even if the versions are inferior. Both of those things guaranteed massive subversion. Also, although alcoholism is a terrible thing, it is less subject to abuse as a percentage of regular users than most proscribed drugs. The issue must be discussed on its own, without automatically applying the "lesson of Prohibition"....
