I believe you when you say beer and liquor were woven into the cultures of many lands, but I wonder two things.

1. How many past cultures had to deal with the problem of getting 4000 lbs of vehicle home after a night of drinking. I suspect not many were killed falling off their wagons, or walking into walls.

2. I wonder how past cultures dealt with those that knew no constraint or limits.
