And this .......
MILPITAS, Calif., - April 26, 2000 - Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), the global leader in innovative storage solutions, today announced the formation of a new Storage Networking Solutions Group which will bring to market storage fabric solutions for the storage area network (SAN) marketplace.
Customers' needs for storage are changing in response to the explosive growth of data brought about by eBusiness and the Internet. Customers now more than ever need lower cost of management, increased data availability, higher performance and simplified storage scalability. Multiple storage fabric architectures are emerging in response to these needs where storage devices are connected directly into a network-like fabric.
"We're seeing increasing demand for storage fabric solutions which solve specific sets of customer requirements. Adaptec will provide a variety of storage fabric solutions, each technology solving a set of customer needs in the existing corporate marketplace and in the fast growing Internet infrastructure market," said Bob Stephens, president and chief executive officer for Adaptec. "No other company in the industry can bring to market the breadth of customer solutions that Adaptec can offer."
Adaptec is dedicated to bringing new levels of functionality and compatibility to storage fabric solutions, as the company has done with SCSI, RAID, and networking hardware and software. The company currently supplies every major PC server OEM with storage I/O solutions, and commands a leading market share position in the distribution channel in both SCSI and RAID. All Adaptec products undergo rigorous interoperability testing with hundreds of systems and peripherals in the company's Compatibility Test Lab, and are backed by leading edge technical support. The company will leverage its I/O market leadership and strengths to provide storage fabric solutions for both ends of the wire, including storage fabric host adapters and storage fabric appliances.
Faye Pairman, vice president and general manager, assumes responsibility for the Storage Networking Solutions group. Ms. Pairman joined Adaptec 7 years ago and has held several senior management positions at Adaptec. She was instrumental in building Adaptec's SCSI and RAID channel business, and spearheaded the alliance between Adaptec and Agilent Technologies, Inc., announced in January, wherein the two companies are co-developing, marketing, and selling Fibre Channel host bus adapters for Windows NT-based servers. Ms. Pairman holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
The Storage Networking Solutions organization will complement the Direct Attached Storage Group, which is responsible for extending Adaptec's SCSI and PCI RAID controller market leadership.
The Direct Attached Storage Group continues to meet customers' needs for storage I/O solutions "inside the box". Adaptec is a market leader in host-based RAID controllers, and offers a complete line of products ranging from low-cost RAID to Ultra160 SCSI and Fibre Channel RAID for the most demanding server environments. Adaptec continues to lead in high performance host bus adapters with strong brand recognition by both channel and OEM customers. The company continues to gain market share in this business by being first to market with Ultra160 SCSI host bus adapters. The roadmap brings the introduction of Ultra320 technology later this year.
I guess the writing is on the wall for ADPT. If they can't play in the Iband they are of historical interest only? If they were such visionaries they should have seen this fabric coming a long long time ago? Never dull in these seats.
Lets see what next wk brings.
