Actually, I think there are some very medically knowledgeable drug-sector analysts out there; many MD's and/or PhD's among them. One always hears stories of an MD leaving practice to work for a biotech investment firm.

I think most of the regular posters on this thread have a better technical understanding of NTAP and its products than that analyst -- and most of us only follow the NAS/SAN technology space for fun and/or personal investment, not as a fulltime job. If an "analyst" is going to be worth his salt, he should know much more about it than we do.

I could understand if he were "dumbing down" his response for the interviewer. But that didn't seem to be the case. Both seemed pretty equally clueless. This also speaks about the level of the forum itself. Couldn't the interviewer have read up a little bit about the company and its technology? Certainly these interviews aren't completely unrehearsed.

I am not trying to pass judgment. But what I am saying is this level of "analysis" does us very little good if we are trying to understand the company itself, and we are already much more sophisticated than the folks doing the "analysis." Perhaps the way it is useful is only as a financial-anthropological exercise: trying to understand how Wall Street understands NTAP.
