i too use netscape communicator as my primary browser. again, you've asked a good question. i went to netscape newsgroups for an answer. below you'll find a pertinent question and the response from a 'champion'. hope this helps...

Netscape is not vulnerable to any viruses sent by email. It is not
possible for Netscape to execute an attachment in email. This was done
to avoid these very problems that plague Outlook users. Unless you get
an attachment, save it to your hard drive, and run it from there, it is
*extremely* unlikely that you will ever get a virus from an email if you
use Netscape.
