Castro put himself in power in the revolution and maintained it by force.

Castro had a hell of a lot of help from the citizens who had been incredibly oppressed by the Batista government, supported by the US in order to exploit the natural resources of Cuba for the sake of American corporations.

You make it sound like Castro walked in alone and said "hi, guys, I'm your new dictator." Didn't happen that way. Like all successful guerilla movements, he had the people on his side. That was the effective majority vote of the population.

From your profile it looks like you were still in grade school at the time. So maybe you didn't know how bad it was under Batista. Castro was welcomed by the Cuban people.

And Castro used to walk the streets without any bodyguard or protection of any kind, and never was attacked, while Ford and Reagan, protected by the best security our country can offer, were both shot at.

That tells me a lot about which country is more satisfied with its leaders.

Our government has done a superb job of brainwashing its people about Cuba. Has been doing it for thirty years. But history is on Cuba's side.
