To All - CLIX reports another loss of <$0.27> per share May 7, 1997

--Compression Labs, Incorporated (CLI) (NASDAQ:CLIX) today
reported revenues of $18.4 million and a net loss of $4.3 million, or $.27 per share, for the first quarter ended March 31, 1997, compared to revenues of $20.0 million and a net loss of $6.2 million, of $.40 per share, in the same quarter last year.

Positives:
1) China revenies continue to grow and now represent 20% of sales
2) Service revenues continue strong and represent 20% of revenue base.
3) R&D expenditure reamin constant at $3.3 million per quarter. New products to be anounced end of Q3 or begining of Q4. These products should 'leap frog' the industry

Negatives:
1) Europe and South America sales slow.
2) G&A increase a percentage of sales to 45%
3) Gross profit margin falls to 40% but still in the high range,
4) Quarterly sales fall to $18.4 million down from $22.3 million from the prior year.

I talked to investor relations and it looks like the hope for future growth is for the new products in Q3 & Q4 and synergies from the VTEL merger. Merger to be voted on on May 23.

EKS <shaking his head thinking our company could perform better but the future looks promising>
