+ SmartDisk Enters Europe with Impleo Acquisition
I suppose I should know more about these folks than I do, How much of a competitor are they? The article implies they sell flash but I have never seen any CF or MMC cards marketed under their brand name. Then again I'm in Europe so maybe that would be expected (see the text below about them moving into Europe). Ausdauer, I note you are on the Smartdisk thread, and I also note their shares were up 13% yesterday. Worth a buy?
SmartDisk Corp, the Naples, Florida-based manufacturer of floppy disk adapters and personal storage systems, has acquired Impleo Ltd, a developer of digital data transfer and storage products based in Wokingham, UK, for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition represents the establishment of a European beachhead for SmartDisk. The company said Impleo, which markets its own Datawise digital connectivity, personal storage and biometrics security products, will now also distribute its US parent's flash memory card readers, smart card readers and personal storage. It counts among its established channels such UK retail groups as Dixons and Computacenter.
The Impleo purchase comes shortly after SmartDisk bought VST Technologies Inc, the Boston, Massachusetts-based manufacturer of FireWire- and USB-based flash memory readers and personal storage products for both PC and Mac platforms. SmartDisk said VST's product line would also be available through its new European office. |
