Mr. Mark -- How extremely kind of you to volunteer to send me those files. The question about file extensions is one I can't answer because the virus overwrites the file with its own .vbs extension. For example pic.jpg becomes pic.vbs. Anyway, I found some instructions on how to manually eradicate the virus. Followed them carefully and was able to successfully reboot... Thanks for your kindness.
