BTW there is a parallel between Hearst and Elian. If you remember the Hearst case she was indeed prosecuted for her participation in bank robbery. However, she was found innocent because of brainwashing (intentional or not) that occurred. Psychiatrists have labeled the type of brainwashing which Patty underwent, unfortunately I don't recall the term. It was basically a bond formed between the captor and the victim. It can be argued that the same type of bond was formed between the Miami relatives and Elian. If a victim like Patty can be brainwashed, imagine what can happen to an innocent 6 year old. It can be argued that Elian too was brainwashed into forming an affection for his captors.
