Cheryl - I bought most of my MSFT holding in 1988, so I guess that would be "long term", and yes, there are some gains there.

My portfolio is pretty diversified now - I spent most of last year getting out of big positions in CPQ and DELL and into CSCO, NOK and a few others. But MSFT at about 10% of my portfolio seems about right.

Your advice would have been great a few weeks ago when the stock was at 110 or whatever, but not at the moment. I will take an immediate 20% tax hit, which means I need to pick another vehicle which would have a bigger gain. And don't say SUNW, I already doubled my position there...

So I think a better course is to sell covered calls and leave the underlying. That has worked well with my remaining CPQ and DELL holdings.

I think MSFT is an easy double from here in the next 12 months, and probably before the end of 2000...
