Dan: re TBird and KX133. My concern has nothing to do with people wanting to upgrade and everything to do with OEMs. True, most systems sold in the PAST used 750 based mobos, but how many of the systems planned to be sold in the near future, at the rich end of the product mix where we have been assuming AMDs superior bin splits would let it clean up, were going to use KX133? I haven't studied the skus, but I would guess it was a large portion. If those mobos cannot be used, do you really think the OEMs (and their customers) are going to find the non 133, non AGP 4x solution equally desirable? I wouldn't, so I assume that such a solution will negatively impact sales that should have been made, and blunt the growth momentum. And, while the herd has come around to a much more sanguine view of AMD, how much of a potential glitch do you think it will take for AMDread to resurface? Perhaps Jerry has the solution in hand with sufficent KZ133 socket mobos ready to roll, or perhaps a workaround will be found for KX133 (there are hints of this on some sites.) I would welcome any links to indications that KZ133 is now shipping in volume, because I assume that it must be shipping now if systems using mobos based on it will be selling in June. But if AMD must go into June with 750 as the chipset for its new flagship CPU, I think this "Slot A thing" may be important.
Regards, Vince
p.s. Dan - I would really like your price projections to come true, since then I think my AMD profits would approach what Kap has already made. |
