Monday morning. I just got my Globalstar phone and tried it for the first time by calling Eli.

Voice quality was perfect from my standpoint. Eli said that he heard a soft whistling sound in the background; I didn't hear it.

The instrument (by Qualcomm) is larger than the Nokia I usually carry. But most of the size is taken up by the sat antenna. It is not noticably heavier than my Nokia. Most of the extra bulk must be hollow plastic -- the antenna.

I haven't tried signing up for cell service on the same instrument, although it is equipped for that. Just haven't done it yet.

I could not get a sat signal from in the office by a window. I had to walk outside. Then the signal came in immediately with no special aiming required.

I was able to walk around at will with no change in signal strength.

I acquired mine from a distributor called GMPCS, to whom I was referred by G*. They told me that will be offering the phone for free if you sign up for 2 years, starting today.

So far I'm very satisfied.
